In 2006 we held a competition among the pupils/parents to design a new school garden. The garden had to be environmentally friendly with plants to attract butterflies, bees and insects. There would be section for composting and areas to observe nature in action.
The overall winner of the competition was David Gertberg and we developed the garden according to his design. The work of creating the garden was spearheaded by Donal Croghan (father of Eoin) and his team of workers from the SOS Horticultural section. Many of the boys who entered the competition were involved in the planting of the flowers.
The garden, in full flower, looks beautiful and many parents and neighbours commented favourably on the improvements.
School Flag Poles
You may have also noticed our flag poles with the tri colour, Kilkenny and CBS flags. They certainly make an impression as one approaches the school and driving down Stephen Street. They were made by Stapleton Engineering, Ballyfoyle, and I would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to Martin Stapleton, dad of Evan, who donated the flag poles to the school. His generosity is much appreciated.
