Our Senior Boys Choir has been sadly missed since the introduction of Covid restrictions and has not yet returned.
The choir was founded by its present conductor, Mr. Seamus Brennan, in 1983. There has been a school choir in existence since that time. New pupils to the school are tested by the choirmaster. If they pass they form the junior choir. At this stage they are in preparation for the senior choir. If they reach a certain standard they are promoted to the senior choir. The repertoire of the choir includes, classical, folk, traditional, popular and sacred music.
The choir performs locally, nationally and have travelled extensively in Britain, Holland and France. Over the years the various choirs have brought prestige and honour to the school by the high standard of their performances and their conduct both at home and when travelling abroad.
Apart from achieving high standards in choral music the choir places particular emphasis on human development: good behaviour, readiness to help, responsible co-operation and a harmonious climate form the basis of the choir’s educational philosophy.
The choir boys practise during school time. Their Choirmaster Mr. Seamus Brennan, who started the choir over thirty years ago has committed endless hours of his own time to the choir and has brought the boys on many trips abroad over the years. We are very grateful to him for his dedication to the boys and to the CBS school.
